The Madonna is patron of all good things, particularly motherhood. Here she and her child are presented in rich, warm, welcoming colors. This monotype, and all the art you see in my store today, is inspired by ancient Byzantine frescos dating back to mid-6th century and seen in the small chapel, Santa Maria della Croce, in Casaranello, a town in Puglia, Italy. The beautiful Madonnas and saints wear nose rings and forehead bindi, confirming a strong Middle Eastern influence that I continue to pass on in my work.
